OUR TAKE

The Let’s Play English dub returns from an inexplicable week off (which I still think came from the overhaul of subtitles to an inferior program) and it looks like they gave us a green mushroom because we get two episodes this time to catch up! See, I can make elite gamer references too. And as we’re covering two episodes, there’s twice as much to talk about, and it’s mostly following up everything that we have seen so far. Sam and Link are still contemplating taking their relationship to the next level, though Link seems to be realizing that his feelings for Sam may be different than he first thought. He might be taking things slow because he’s a patient guy who is willing to let someone new to romance like Sam take her time getting comfortable, but he might also be coming to terms with him not being as attracted to her as he initially suspected. Meanwhile, Marshall gets a cold and struggles to just rest, leading to Link and Sam taking care of him and inadvertently Sam getting closer to him, revealing that she’s been a fan of his content since her time in the hospital. And then there’s Charles, who doesn’t get a lot of scenes in these two episodes, but gives Sam some self-esteem exercises, and also ghosts someone he had a casual relationship with to play Sam’s game Ruminate.

Marshall also finally gets around to replaying and re-reviewing Ruminate, and this time he actually learns how to play it properly, which may or may not give him a way of seeing playing games a bit differently. With that and Sam looking after him a bit while he’s sick, the two are steadily getting closer as friends, which is what makes the earlier scenes of Sam going along with Monica to a fashion shoot all the more bittersweet. It’s nice that the two are also becoming friends, but given how the Opening seems to be indicating pretty heavily that Sam and Marshall are on a romantic collision course, it’s going to make that bonding with Monica, Marshall’s likely soon to be ex, all the more awkward and dramatic, which is probably the goal. Still, all of the characters are continuing to develop and grow as people, including Angela as she continues to warm up to Link as a potential Plan B. Only three episodes left, so let’s see how they choose to leave this season on.
