English Dub Review: Dusk Beyond the End of the World “Think Morning, Count Two”

Overview:

Akira and Towasa’s friendship is blooming into something more. But as the world turns against Towasa’s AI research, outside forces threaten everything they’ve built together.

Our Take:

I was pleasantly surprised that we got an episode 0 for this show. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, but managed to avoid any spoilers. The only thing I knew for certain was that it had some decent romance. This was true enough in this episode, but with how the story plays out, I’m worried it’s going to be a tear-jerking conclusion. I’ve been wrong before, and I definitely hope I am here. It’s a beautifully animated show, and I hope it has a story to match.

Speaking of the story, I feel it has something to say about things that are going on in the world now. Towasa is facing a lot of blowback for her AI research, and I can see both sides of it. If you look at how AI is being used in our own world, you can probably relate. AI should be used to improve people’s lives, but it can sometimes intrude on things that relate to the human “soul.” This was one of my most anticipated dubs, and this first episode has only made me feel better about that.
