Review: Krapopolis “Plauge and Fury”

Overview

Tyrannis gets a new girlfriend whose job becomes a problem for him; Deliria and Hippocampus deal with a plague.

Our Take

Ty on the continued quest for love is continuing to work miracles for Krapopolis, providing another fun romp as to the hell that is the dating world. That said, I couldn’t help but see the parallels between this week’s episode and that of “The ABC’s of Beth” by way of Rick and Morty in both the “A” and “B” plots.

For starters, Ty’s new girlfriend is an almost exact pastiche that of Keara and the catalysts for both episodes were largely the same as well, hell, even the character designs featured strong resemblances to each other. Furthermore, Hippo and Deliria dealing with a plague with a bunch of mutated dwellers felt very much like a dark take on Froopyland and even the character designs between both sets of beings are almost identical in a lot of ways.

How much does this hurt the episode? Well, the continued comparisons between Krapopolis and Rick and Morty are endless up to and including all of the producers but Krapopolis lacks the one thing that it will never get…that Justin Roiland seasoning that Rick and Morty’s season three aforementioned episode had all over it. No matter how much these people try, they may never escape the totality of Justin’s creative input and in an episode that largely borrows from one of his creations and still isn’t able to pull it off as well should tell you all you really need to know here.
