OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Sylvia undertakes a case to protect an Ostanian singer, while Anya has another day at school.OUR TAKEWe’re back with the Forgers again this week and once again it’s another episode somewhat focuses on Anya more than her parents. Heck, you could argue that Anya is the character who’s gotten the most focus out of these four episodes into this season so far! Anyway, the first half actually goes beyond the Forgers and has a side mission focusing on Loid’s superior Sylvia, who has to manage the arrival of an Ostanian opera singer making a trip to Westonia, despite numerous scandals dogging him, and so Sylvia must hide these scandals from the press so as not to ignite a conflict. Though she might have her work cut out for her since there’s a conspiracy theorist out there ready to kill the singer for potentially defecting to another country. All in all, a neat little side adventure, and like the latter segment of the first episode of the season, it’s nice to see other characters carrying on and getting to see their daily lives when the Forgers aren’t involved. Not that the main characters aren’t interesting or funny enough to follow, but more focus on the supporting cast would definitely be appreciated, so here’s hoping we get more of that in the remaining two thirds.Speaking of the Forgers, the second half of this episode focuses on Anya, specifically her staying behind at school for a little bit and helping out her history teacher Henry Henderson. Looks like Anya has learned from that previous incident of forgetting an extra handkerchief that got her that Tonitrus Bolt, though she still has a long way to go to become an Imperial Scholar. Luckily, as Henderson points out, many who became Imperial Scholars got several Tonitrus Bolts, so it’s by no means a death sentence if that’s what she plans to do. While Anya is not the sharpest crayon in the box, she is at least curious and willing to improve, something Henderson does well to encourage, as any good teacher should. It would just be nice if Anya could show enthusiasm in her studies without Loid almost fainting from thinking she’s in trouble again. But yeah, another solid installment for Spy X Family, and still at least another eight or so episodes to go, so here’s hoping we get some more supporting cast stuff and maybe, if we’re lucky, some more dramatic stories that move the plot a long in a significant way.
