English Dub Review: My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha: Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon, I’m Out for Revenge! “The Abyss”

Overview

Three years after his near-death experience, Light has built a new life surrounded by new friends and powerful allies. All are loyal to him in their own way, and all are eager to help him with his revenge.

Our Take

After a three-year time skip, Light has established a formidable base in the dungeon, surrounded by loyal allies and powerful summons. The primary focus is on introducing his new companions, including key figures like Mei, Nazuna, and Aoyuki, while showing glimpses of his thriving underground settlement. Light’s confidence and abilities have grown immensely, setting the stage for his next major objectives.

Despite the lighthearted comedic elements, especially the antics of the maids and their playful interactions, the episode struggles with pacing and tonal shifts. Much of the story’s development, including the building of Light’s kingdom and his rise in strength, isn’t properly explained other than the “Infinite gacha” stuff helped him cultivate his level of power and personal army entirely off-screen, leaving some of the setup feeling rushed. While the chemistry among characters provides entertainment, the episode sacrifices depth in favor of quickly establishing the status quo, yet I remain curious to see what roles they play later on…

Overall, this installment serves as a setup for Light’s upcoming adventures and the start of his revenge arc, balancing moments of humor with hints of strategy and planning, with each newly introduced character having colorful personalities, somewhat giving off similar vibes to another anime I like called “Overlord”. The focus remains on character dynamics and world-building, giving viewers a sense of Light’s accomplishments and the loyalty of his allies without delving into past struggles or conflicts. Even if the dub comes across as cringey at times, with specific words such as “Slay queen” and “get rekt” as if an out-of-touch Zoomer jackass wrote this translation. But with the way the ending sets everything up, I’m curious to see where it goes next!
