“Something Is Killing The Children” Set for Animated Series Adaptation
Blumhouse, the studio behind horror hits like Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, is set to bring James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s critically acclaimed BOOM! Studios comic series, Something Is Killing The Children, to life in a new project: an adult animated series.
The announcement comes after a previous series adaptation attempt by Netflix was ultimately shelved at the end of 2024. Now, the monsters that lurk in the dark will have a new chance to terrify audiences, thanks to the horror powerhouse Blumhouse.
Dual Approach to a Modern Horror Hit
Something Is Killing The Children follows the story of Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter who is the only person who can see and fight the terrifying creatures that have been preying on the children of a quiet town. The comic has been a massive success, selling over 2 million copies worldwide and earning multiple accolades, including the 2022 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series.
Comic creator James Tynion IV will spearhead the adult animated series and serve as an executive producer, with artist Werther Dell’Edera co-executive producing.
Jason Blum expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something is Killing the Children. James and Werther’s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, luring us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”
Tynion IV also shared his excitement about partnering with Blumhouse, calling the comic “the comic book that changed my life and career forever.” He added, “Nobody understands horror better than Blumhouse, and I can’t wait for the world to see what we all have planned together.”
The comic’s success, including the immense popularity of its spin-off House of Slaughter (which sold over 500,000 copies of its first issue), demonstrates the strong audience demand for the universe Tynion IV and Dell’Edera have created. The dual adaptation approach by Blumhouse signals a major investment in what they clearly see as the next major horror franchise.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
