English Dub review: Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World “Five Obstacles”

Subaru returns from the corridor of memories to find the tower under attack by mabeasts.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Re: ZERO continues the chaos inside the Watchtower as Subaru and the others attempt to deal with Gluttony and the various threats surrounding them. The episode jumps between several intense confrontations while Subaru is once again forced to adapt to an increasingly dangerous situation. There are also some intriguing developments with Subaru himself that could prove very important going forward.

The action throughout the proceedings was fantastic, with Emilia, Ram, and the others getting plenty of great moments. Subaru’s new ability was easily one of my favorite parts, especially with how creatively it was presented. The animation looked great during the major fights, while the brutal gore and incredible OST made several scenes hit even harder. Some extremely satisfying moments made this episode a lot of fun to watch.

Overall, this episode did a great job setting up what’s coming next while still giving us plenty of exciting moments along the way. The story continues to raise more questions than it answers, and several developments leave the situation looking even more complicated. The constant tension and excellent cliffhanger make it very clear that things are about to get completely insane.
