English Dub Season Review: 2.5 Dimensional Seduction Season One

Overview:

After a disastrous romantic confession, Masamune Okumura finds solace in the fictional world of anime and manga. Now a second-year high school student and the president of the Manga Research Club, Okumura spends a peaceful existence watching the adventures of the angel Liliel, his favorite character.

Our Take:

Surprisingly, I don’t have many negative things to say about this show. The main one that comes to mind is that the characters are sometimes animated in a way that makes them look odd. I’m referring to their ankles, and while that might sound nitpicky, if you notice that their ankles are weird-looking, then that means they must be really weird-looking. But it wasn’t so big a deal that it ruined my enjoyment, just something that I think should be mentioned.

We’re two for two in cosplay shows this year because we got a second season of My Dress-Up Darling and the first season of this series which has already got a second season on the way.  What’s crazy is that at first look, both of these shows seem like ecchi gooner bait. But if you give them a chance, there’s a lot of heart in these shows.

The beating heart of this show is the characters. Okumura and Ririsa are our main leads, but even the supporting cast is fantastic. My personal favorite is Mikari, and she does go AWOL for a decent chunk of the middle parts of the season, she makes a huge comeback at the end of the season.

Harem shows can be hit or miss and for the most part I would say this is a hit. Sure I don’t think my favorite, Mikari, will be the winner in the end but I can still hope! That’s my main issue with harem shows is that we usually know who the winner is going to be early on. That is also the case here but thankfully there’s two girls in the group that aren’t massively in love with Okumura. Not yet at least.

I had a lot more fun with this show than I thought I would. I’m very much looking forward to the second season and it would make me even happier if My Dress-Up Darling got it’s third season announced and could maybe come out in a similar timeframe. But at worst I think I can count on 2.5 Dimensional Seduction to fill that void.
