English Dub Review: Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun “Wishes”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Nene and Hanako have a heart to heart, while Teru and Kou’s brotherly battle is interrupted by Number Six.

I wish this didn’t end on a cliffhanger!
Here we are, finally at the end of this elongated and extended season…as far as I know. I thought the ending we got in March was the end but then it turned out there was a whole second half left unaccounted for, so I suppose we’ll see. And honestly, after how this specific episode ends, I wouldn’t be surprised if we DO get a third batch of a dozen episodes in this same season down the line. It’s not like there’s been an announcement of them getting a proper third season. But hopefully we do, because this season ended on possibly the most infuriating cliffhanger that I’ve seen since…I don’t know, the Animorphs last book? Although I guess that wasn’t meant to be a cliffhanger in a traditional sense, but the point here is that there is SO MUCH left unresolved by the end of this episode! As mentioned, Kou and Teru have a fight where they lay out all of their baggage and Teru’s plan to kill Hanako, only for that to be interfered with by Wonder Number Six who just kinda disappeared after those episodes he appeared in. He basically wollops everyone except for Aoi, and seems to almost kill Kou, but then Natsuhiko, that guy who hangs around Sakura and Tsukasa, shows up and knocks out Number Six!

Where that plotline is going to end up is anyone’s guess, but we also have Nene finally confessing her feelings to Hanako and hoping that he’ll return that affection in kind, though he deflects and tells her that trying to end up in the Far Shore with him might end up being more of a risk than she expects. And that’s when Tsukasa shows up, no longer a little kid but the ghost form that looks similar to Hanako’s. He’s basically there to tempt Hanako with killing and destroying the “Yorishiros” of the other Wonders, which will apparently give him a wish granted by a god. I don’t know if that was something that was discussed earlier but it seems the idea is now quite tempting to Hanako. However, a later scene, that I guess is a flashback, shows that Tsukasa is only using this as a chance to get him and Sakura out of the school. So yeah, there’s a LOT going on and a LOT that needs to be tied up, but we’re either going to have to read the manga or wait until a third season comes along to find out how all of this turns out!
