Review: Gummy Mummy
Adult Swim SMALLS, the platform for short-form animated content by emerging creators, has released its latest short film, “Gummy Mummy.” Created by London-based storyteller and animator Lydia Reid, the 2D animated film delves into a common childhood warning with a surreal twist.
“Gummy Mummy” follows a young girl who ignores the age-old advice not to swallow her chewing gum. The film explores the bizarre and creative consequences of her actions, giving a minty-fresh take on the old wives’ tale.
The short film showcases Reid’s unique artistic style, which blends both analog and digital techniques. Reid is known for her work that explores themes of self-love, gender, and freedom, and she was the winner of the Animation category at the 2020 RTS London Student Awards.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
