English Dub Review: Tougen Anki “Day of the Storm”

Overview:

A storm catches the boys by surprise, and they have to stay locked up for a night.

Our Take:

I had no idea there was going to be a second cour while I was watching this episode. I was fully prepared to knock this episode down a bit because, for a “last” episode, it was disappointing. It teases a new arc and introduces the principal of the school, but we didn’t get any time with them. Since there was a storm going on, Naito had the kids stay in the gym to be safe. This meant that boys and girls were going to sleep together, and of course, Kuina was happy to hear that. This was where we learned about a quirk of Ikari’s.

For whatever reason, he doesn’t like lewd jokes and thinks dating shouldn’t happen until you’re twenty years old. I don’t know why he feels this way, but after Kuina makes it clear what she’s planning on doing with Rokuro, he makes the girls sleep somewhere separate. I know Rokuro doesn’t mind, but it was a bit surprising to see.

It seems like we’re going to get a second cour in October. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first set of episodes, but maybe it takes some time to get going. Let’s hope that we get more of the last couple of episodes instead of how it started.
