English Dub Review: Kaiju No. 8 “Cataclysms”

Overview:

The battle with No. 9’s Kaiju begins in earnest.

Our Take:

One of Kafka’s old coworkers was at his daughter’s wedding when a giant kaiju interrupted the service. He managed to get her groom out, and the kaiju almost ate his daughter before Nanami showed up. The kaiju bit his daughter, then threw her up in the air to catch her in its mouth. She was rescued before she was eaten, but I always think that if a giant creature bites you hard enough to pick you up, you’re probably a goner already. Hopefully, that isn’t true; she seemed okay at least.

The kaiju are attacking all over the country, and everyone has to fight their asses off. Kikoru finally debuts in her mothers Kaiju No. 4 armor and demolishes everything in her path. Hoshina finally got to use the No. 10 armor, but his has a little wrinkle to it. No. 10 is still sentient and can communicate with Hoshina and that leads to a few complications. Their two fighting styles don’t exactly mix and it leads to Hoshina almost getting himself killed. But when he decides to do things 10’s way then the battle progresses a little more smoothly. Hoshina might have become my favorite character this episode. I hope we get to see more interactions with him and 10.
