English Dub Review: I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability “Black Dragon”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Lloyd’s friends are exhausted, but there’s still the giant, infernal, dragon chimera to deal with.

Our Take:

The team has overcome their respective demonic adversaries, but as we all know, there are no breaks when there’s a crucial battle happening.  This doesn’t bode well for Lloyd’s allies, who are all extremely tired from all the effort they mustered in defeating the chimeras.  Despite the fatigue, they have one last chimera to defeat to foil the villainous Guitane’s plan, and it is a big one.  This particular chimera takes the form of a massive, fire-breathing dragon that is more ferocious than the others.  Its formidable presence was evident when the dragon knocked Crow unconscious and had already bested Tao and Sylpha’s own strength.

Like the previous episode, “Black Dragon also takes the Demon Slayer route by incorporating the origin story of this monstrous foe, but with an interesting catch.  It’s revealed that the dragon had previously served the demon lord Guisarme, who appeared in season one, before it was tossed aside for being “useless”.  This resulted in the dragon serving Guitane and being recreated as a chimera.  Of course, unlike Demon Slayer, the series showcases that this dragon isn’t something we should feel sympathetic for.  Although Guisarme only served as a last-minute antagonist in season one, this flashback offered a suitable callback that gives the villainous demon lord his supposedly final appearance before making way for this season’s more formidable villain.  Additionally, the episode reveals that the devil boy was actually Grim in disguise, assisting the allies in finishing off the last of the chimeras.  Now, all that’s left is the battle between Lloyd and Guitane, which has been put on the sidelines for long enough.
