GUNSHIP Releases “Tech Noir 2” Music Video, a Synthwave Claymation Homage to Retro Gaming

Synthwave band GUNSHIP has released a new music video for their track “Tech Noir 2,” a stunning claymation creation directed by Lee Hardcastle. The video serves as a sequel to their previous cult classic “Tech Noir” and shifts its focus from ’80s film to the vibrant world of retro gaming culture.

The new music video is a visual feast for gamers, packed with references to iconic games such as DooM, Zelda, Golden Axe, Chase HQ, Pac-Man, and Super Mario. The narrative follows a young girl who must enter a video game to rescue her baby brother, who was abducted by the villain from the first video.

Adding to the video’s nostalgic appeal is a haunting monologue by the legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, who also provided narration for the original “Tech Noir.” The track itself features the voice of Charlie Simpson from Fightstar and Busted, as well as a powerful saxophone solo by Tim Cappello, famous for his work with Tina Turner and his performance in The Lost Boys.

The band’s core trio of Dan Haigh, Alex Westaway, and Alex Gingell collaborated with Hardcastle on the post-production visual effects. In a special tribute to their fans, the initials of online competition winners are featured in the arcade high-score table within the video, solidifying the music video as a true celebration of both gaming and fan culture.
