English Dub Review: Tougen Anki “The Unreliable Hero”

Overview:

Kuina fights a battle against another ugly, but this time, she finds herself in a very delicate situation.

Our Take:

Kuina continued to protect Rokuro from uglies until one got the best of her. It started throwing her around the room and beating the crap out of her. Rokuro shared his backstory with us, which, as you can imagine, was sad. He loved a girl, and she was sick, but luckily, an oni doctor lived in the village. One day, the Momotaro attacked the village, killing the doctor. Without a doctor to manage her symptoms, the girl passed away shortly after. Rokuro retreated into himself and became a coward, but while he watched Kuina get her ass kicked, he decided to honor the memory of the girl he loved and finally fight back.

He uses his oni blood power in the form of dancing, and other than screaming what the moves are called, I rather enjoyed his fighting style. I don’t know what it means for a show when the side characters are more enjoyable than the main character. I would much rather spend the entire episode following Kuina and Rokuro than go back to Shiki.
