English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Daikanyama and Girlfriend”
Overview:
Chizuru and Kazuya are invited to a party in the super-fancy area of Daikanyama.
Our Take:
The only way I can make sense of how this story is written is if it’s some sort of fan fiction that the author is writing for himself. Maybe he puts himself in the role of Kazuya or something, but if that’s the case, it might be even sadder. The way Kazuya and everyone react to Chizuru is one of the dumbest things I’ve seen in an anime. I get it, Chizuru is hot, and for the most part, I could do some mental gymnastics as to why everyone on the street reacts to her. In this episode, they are going to a party with a bunch of other actors and actresses, and they all react the same way. I had to roll my eyes at that one because it doesn’t seem like that should be the case.
Kazuya is worried about Chizuru and Umi because they are a better fit. At the very least, I think he has come to terms with the fact that Umi is a decent guy. He wanted advice from Kazuya about crowdfunding and even brought up what Chizuru said to him without letting it be known that it was she who said it. He asked Kazuya what he thinks “I don’t not like him” means, and he took that to mean she does like him. Don’t see that mattering anytime soon, unfortunately.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
