English Dub Review: A Couple of Cuckoos “That, but Times A Hundred”

Nagi is suddenly hit with the truth about Ai’s real objective.

Our Take:

I can see where Nagi is coming from to an extent. Erika asked him what being in love is like, and he said it’s like doing the thing you have the most fun doing and making you the happiest time a hundred. That’s true, but I think it also sets up an unrealistic expectation. Maybe he only meant the act of being in love, not a relationship, because while I agree, love is also hard. You won’t always get along, and sometimes you have to put your wants, needs, and fun aside for someone else. What I do agree 100% with is that love is the best feeling in the world.

One thing I liked at the beginning of this series was how Nagi was in love with someone already, and for the most part, that love hasn’t changed. But when his sister goes on a date with a guy from school and lies and says they’re dating, he starts getting conflicting feelings. Look, I get they aren’t blood related, but having Sachi as an option at all feels like a waste of time. We all know she’s not going to be the one he ends up with, even if Erika isn’t the one either, it’s not gonna be the sister. This episode set it up like Ai was going to be the focus, but she was hardly in it. That’s good, I guess, because we need fewer romantic options, not more.
