Streaming Snafu Delays South Park 27th Season Premiere
Comedy Central today announced that South Park’s 27th season premiere has moved to Wednesday, July 23rd at 10:00pm ET/PT, we have asked for comment as to whether or not this move affects the debut of the second season of Digman, but have not heard back yet at the time of this writing.
Reports are indicating that the delays are being caused by the uncertainty surrounding the streaming future of South Park with the rights up in the air with a number of streamers vying for the opportunity to have the series, possibly on a non-exclusive basis.
The hit animated franchise, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, debuted on Comedy Central on August 13, 1997. Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny were first seen in the animated short “The Spirit of Christmas,” and from there were launched into television history. Co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are executive producers, along with Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell and Vernon Chatman are producers. Christopher Brion is the Creative Director of South Park Digital Studios. South Park’s website is SouthPark.cc.com.
The producers had this to say:
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
