Familiar Favorites and Fresh Faces Highlight 2025 Animation Emmy Nominations

The nominations for the 77th annual Emmy Awards have been announced, and as always, the categories for animation and visual effects are packed with impressive contenders. This year sees a mix of beloved returning series and exciting newcomers vying for the coveted golden statue.

In the race for Outstanding Animated Program, familiar faces dominate the list. Arcane returns with its stunning episode “The Dirt Under Your Nails,” showcasing its continued strength in visual storytelling. Long-standing favorites Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons also earned nominations, testament to their enduring appeal. Netflix’s anthology series Love, Death + Robots snagged a nod for its episode “Spider Rose,” continuing its trend of pushing creative boundaries. Interestingly, the list also includes a notable newcomer: Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects, indicating a potential shift towards recognizing grittier, adult-oriented animated shows.

While major franchises and established studios continue to hold a strong presence, the inclusion of newer properties like Common Side Effects suggests a potential openness to innovation within the Emmy landscape. The 77th Emmy Awards ceremony, hosted by Nate Bargatze, will air on CBS on September 14th from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where the winners in these and other categories will be revealed.
