‘The Simpsons’ Takes On Tech Dystopias with ‘Black Mirror’ Spoof ‘Yellow Mirror’ Special Trailer
Springfield is taking a trip into the dark, mind-bending world of sci-fi horror. Disney+ has officially released the trailer and key art for “Yellow Mirror,” a new Simpsons exclusive special set to stream on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Taking clear inspiration from Charlie Brooker’s acclaimed anthology series Black Mirror, the special promises a double-bill of dark, tech-obsessed tales where Springfield’s most famous family struggles to find the light amidst sci-fi absurdity.
Two Dark Tales of Tech & Reality
In the upcoming special, defective lamp reveals a heartbreaking truth about what Homer believes is reality, and an AI-powered tablet befriends and controls Maggie. The Simpsons struggle to find the light through two dark tales of the curious and bizarre in this Disney+ exclusive.
Capping Off a Summer of Disney+ Exclusives
“Yellow Mirror” marks the third platform-exclusive Simpsons special to hit Disney+ this summer. It follows the releases of Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition — where a frustrated Marge reimagines three different versions of her husband after a disaster date night and Simpsley — a Ripley-esque noir story following a penniless Marge who is sent to Italy to bring Seymour Skinner home.
Produced by Gracie Films in association with 20th Television Animation, The Simpsons continues to expand its digital footprint. Executive produced by Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, and showrunner Matt Selman, the long-running series will head into its 38th season this fall, but standalone streaming events like “Yellow Mirror” show the iconic animated franchise isn’t afraid to experiment with new formats.
