English Dub Season Review: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season One
Overview:
A My Hero Academia spin-off!
Koichi AKA The Crawler gets close to the street idol Pop-Step, and another vigilante, Knuckleduster. What starts as something to help out the people of the city becomes something so much more when a villain starts releasing a drug that puts people’s quirks into overdrive.
Our Take:
If you had read some of my episode reviews, you might have noticed that I’d started to sour a bit on the main series of My Hero Academia. I love this universe, and I’m not quite ready to leave it, but the main series has grown stale. Vigilantes offers up something new enough that I’m enjoying it, and I’m glad that it’s getting a second season. I wasn’t surprised that it got renewed because with the main series ending, it makes sense to keep it going.
I had some minor gripes with how the story went. Mainly, the things that happened with Knuckleduster didn’t pick up steam until the last three or so episodes, and it was left on a bit of a cliffhanger. It was the most interesting part of the narrative, and getting left like that was frustrating, but they have to leave us wanting more, right?
The characters in this group are fun because, outside of Pop-Step, they’re all grown-ups. I understand being an anime fan that high school stories are the name of the game. I don’t necessarily begrudge them for that, but when we get a series that follows people who aren’t in that space, it’s refreshing.
If you’re a fan of My Hero Academia and were beginning to wonder what to watch when the series ends, then wonder no more! I think this show is a great place to keep fans interested, and while I might not have gotten far in the manga, I loved the show. From what I can see of the people who have read, we are in for an amazing ride with My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. I can’t wait for season two.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
