English Dub Season Review: From Bureaucrat To Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated! Season One

Overview:

Although Kenzaburou Tondabayashi is a 52-year-old bureaucrat, he is well-versed in reincarnation stories where a protagonist suddenly awakens in a fantasy world. After being hit by a truck, Kenzaburou lands in that exact situation. However, what baffles him is that he wound up in the world of an otome game, as the young villainess and the daughter of a duke, Grace Auvergne.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I have to be honest, when I first read the synopsis for this show, I was prepared for the worst. A lot of anime like this would go down a perverted route. I’m all for a good ecchi show, but there are a few times it can be problematic. When a 52-year-old man reincarnates into the body of a teenage girl, you can maybe understand what I was worried about. Luckily, this ended up being one of the most wholesome shows I’ve seen in some time.

Instead of being a perverted old man, Kenzaburo ends up being one of the kindest and loving fathers in anime. What sets this apart from most isekai is that there’s a chance for Kenzaburo to return to his family. Usually, when you get hit by good ole Truck-kun, you’re a goner, but it seems like Kenzaburo is currently in a coma.

There are still a lot of questions, which is one of the more disappointing aspects of the show. Kenzaburo is in an otome game, which isn’t necessarily anything new, but what is fascinating is the fact that his daughter can play the game and help him at times.

If you’re looking for an isekai that doesn’t have a big looming threat and is a chill and fun time, then this is the show for you. It’s a bit upsetting that there were so many questions left unanswered with no season two in sight, but that’s the industry these days.
