English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “Royal Guard”

Overview:

The royal guard, led by Jinshi, arrives, sealing the Shi clan’s fate. Maomao wants to save her friend, Shisui.

Our Take:

I was so hyped to see Jinshi discard his eunich persona and embrace his crown prince persona. When I saw the key visual for the last few episodes, I wasn’t sure if we would get to see Jinshi in his royal guard armor, but we did! It was interesting to me as well to see that he knew his soldiers wouldn’t necessarily be on board with a surprise attack because it would be dishonorable. He took all the weight for them, though, by telling them that if anyone was upset, he would take full responsibility.

There are some minor disappointments in this episode, though. I didn’t like how Shisui’s killing of the children was swept under the rug. I understand now that they would have been executed no matter what, but it wasn’t handled in the best way. I was also looking forward to the reunion between Jinshi and Maomao but nothing happened yet. There is sort of a battle going on still so maybe we will get something more later. There was some great news recently for this show in that we are getting another season! I’m glad that this show is doing so well.
