English Dub Review: Sakamoto Days “Just Desserts”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Saw’s attacks push Shin and Lu to awaken new abilities, turning the tables on the deadly killer.  Meanwhile, Dump ambushes Osaragi at a temple.

Our Take:
As the episode’s title suggests, one of the Death Row assassins, Saw, is getting his “just desserts” in this week’s high-octane episode.  This was due to Shin unlocking the full potential of his clairvoyance abilities, Dragon Ball style, in which he can predict Saw’s movements without even reading his thoughts.  Given Shin’s determination to get stronger, this is a step in the right direction for the clairvoyant assassin as he strives to protect Sakamoto and his family.  More importantly, it gave us one of Shin’s most badass moments of the season since the third episode, “Welcome to Sugar Park”, with him using his newfound power to defeat Saw.  Of course, it isn’t without the assistance of a drunk Lu, who has done some awakening of her own through her new “mafia” personality.
Through the protagonists’ encounter with Saw, this would have set the stage for later episodes involving them confronting the notoriously deadly assassins regarding the structure.  However, to my surprise, the events that occurred after the Saw fight proved otherwise, as the Order managed to take care of one of the situations for us.  Saw was later killed by Hyo, and Dump was no match for Osaragi and her power saw.  As for Apart, he was left alive when he discovered Slur’s treachery through his confrontation with Kashima.  So, that leaves us with Apart and Minimalist as the remaining survivors, with the latter paying a “lovely” visit to Sakamoto’s store.
Considering the Death Row inmates’ formidable abilities and deranged personalities, I would’ve liked to see more of them in action, primarily through their battles against Sakamoto and his crew.  But, on the other hand, “Just Desserts” gave us more of what the Order was capable of through their shining moments.  This was mainly the case for Osaragi, whose strength and humongous saw make her a formidable member despite her gentle personality.  Through the show’s animation style and Dump’s briefly tragic backstory, the battle between Osaragi and Dump was another strong example of the show’s entertaining and stylized action sequences.
