English Dub Review: The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl “The Sofa and Romance’s Gorilla Love Song”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Despite officially beginning their romance, Sophia is hesitant to be public about going out with Louie. Not knowing any of this, Isaac and Eddie decide to make their move.

OUR TAKE

Huh, I go from one show that is stuck on a will they, won’t they to a show that actually broke out of that but STILL has love triangle elements. So yeah, last week finally got Sophia to break out of her anxiety prison and hear that Louie actually has liked her for a long time too, leading to them properly going out. This was definitely a pleasant surprise to me, who thought Sophia was going to go her whole twelve episode series without even getting close to this, so color me impressed! Unfortunately, to balance things out, she is STILL afraid of getting backlash from people for dating him, so she decides to distance herself from him in public and keep their relationship a secret. And hey, couples make their own rules with these things and it’s nobody else’s business but theirs, but you would think she would want to savor the win for at least a bit, you know? Or maybe that’s what they’re saving for the remainder of the season and it will conclude with them being open about their relationship. We’re only a few weeks away from that as it is, so I suppose we’ll see soon enough.

Though the unfortunate side effect of not being open about the fact you’re already dating is that other people, specifically people who also have romantic intentions, will think you’re still single. Louie understandably has concerns about this, though Sophia reassures him that she’s not looking anywhere else, and that sounds in-character for her so I have no reason to doubt that either. Sadly, this is not the case for Isaac and Eddie, her well-intentioned friends who have clearly been holding some sort of torch for her all this time and have not been informed about this change in relationship status. Luckily neither of them are particularly incel like (although I have my suspicions about Eddie) so once they do find out, I’m sure they’ll be supportive, if a little bit crestfallen. Oh yeah, and those guys who planned the failed bombing, apparently part of an organization called Daybreak, are still plotting future schemes, so we haven’t heard the last of them just yet. That leaves us with five episodes to go and a few different balls up in the air, so let it not be said there are not some surprises yet to come as we inch closer to the end of this series.
