English Dub Review: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes “Mom Descends!”

Overview:

Koichi’s mother is in town, and he’s willing to take drastic measures so that she’ll let him stay in Tokyo.

Our Take:

I was a little disappointed that the Koichi Fake Girlfriend Arc didn’t last very long, but luckily, the disappointment didn’t last. Koichi brought Makoto to be his fake girlfriend, but his mom saw right through it. Then, Kazuho (Pop-Step’s real name) showed up, unaware that Makoto was there. To make matters worse, Iwao (Knuckleduster’s real name) let himself in as well. In case you didn’t notice, we are learning everyone’s real name now, and not only that, but for some reason, Iwao showed up like a presentable member of society. He explained that he was part of a non-profit that helps the community, and that was why Koichi, Kazuho, and he spent so much time together.

Interestingly enough, Makoto didn’t rule out dating Koichi for real in the future. One thing that might have helped that decision was Koichi rescuing her from a catbus, and she learned that he was The Crawler. Koichi was able to tap into a new aspect of his powers and was able to fly for a short burst. Now I’m looking forward to Koichi training and being able to do it more consistently.
