English Dub Review: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes “Goodbye to Dad”

Overview:

There’s trouble when the power goes out at Narufest, all while Knuckleduster fights a very personal battle.

Our Take:

This was a fantastic episode, and I plan to highlight all the great aspects of it. However, I must first address something a bit unusual to me. I understand that Knuckleduster’s daughter had a bee parasite in her that was controlling her but did he have to beat the absolute dogshit out of her to get it out? It took me out of the episode a bit to have this somber music playing and Knuckleduster talking about being a better parent from here on out, all while we see him punch her so hard she gets lifted off the ground.

Having said all that, this show reminded me why I loved My Hero Academia in the first place. I have to admit that the last few seasons of the mainline series have been a bit disappointing for a bit. It’s ending in October, so I have to wonder (and hope) if the plan isn’t to have this take over for it. The animation for the fight scene in this episode was fantastic, so I have hope for the series if it does become a regular thing. It was also nice to see that Aizawa has some humanity when it comes to dealing with a “villain”.
