English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX “That’s Why I…”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
The White Gundam emerges from the portal and reveals its purpose.
OUR TAKE
GQuuuuuuX finally reaches its end…or rather, rushes to the end, because if there’s one thing that is apparent by the time this episode is over, it’s that this series should have been AT LEAST twice as long. I’ll go more in depth on that in the Season Review, but this being the climax of the whole story, while entertaining, only ends up highlighting how much of this is simply not filled out enough to be structurally sound as a plot. Case in point, the reveal of how the Elmeth/Rose of Sharon made it into this universe. As many theorized, she came from a universe where Char died in her place (as shown in a modern and faithful recreation of the battle from the original series where she dies, sans her death), but her powerful Newtype abilities ended up creating SEVERAL new universes from her grief. These are symbolized by the different mobile suits and armors that Char would pilot and then paint red, some of them being pretty deep cuts and fun easter eggs for franchise fans (a couple of which even I didn’t recognize), and eventually landing on THIS timeline, where Amuro simply never got in the Gundam and Char took it instead.
Which brings us to the situation happening in the finale, starting with the arrival of the original recipe Gundam piloted by…SHUJI! The real one, not his ghost from last episode. Many, MANY people were eager to see OG Ace Pilot Amuro come and smack everyone’s ass across the galaxy, but as I figured in the last review, that really wouldn’t have made much sense considering Amuro simply does not exist as a character in this series. So, as for where Shuji got it…I guess from his universe, which does not explain how he is able to make it grow in size and change colors like a second stage boss, but…screw it. While he plans to kill Lalah to break down the worlds that aren’t meant to exist, Machu stops him because…freedom? And Nyaan decides to help and becomes good again because…also freedom? Char and Challia reunite before fighting each other since Char also wants to kill this Lalah, but things end up resolving themselves and Char kills Kycillia instead in another homage to the original series. After that, things are wrapped up pretty fast in a way that may not be super satisfying to some people but that’s to be expected. Which I suppose means I’m going to have to rewatch all twelve episodes to properly analyze this series enough for the season review next time, because hoo boy, are there things I still do not really understand.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
