English Dub Review: I’m Living With an Otaku NEET Kunoichi?! “Somehow I Started Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi; Somehow a Perverted Kunoichi Showed Up”
Overview
Based on the Japanese web manga by Yakitomato and Kotatsu, this series follows Tsukasa Atsumi, an ordinary salaryman whose life changes when he’s saved from a demon attack by Shizuri Ideura, a mysterious kunoichi. Shizuri reveals that Tsukasa carries “Samurai Blood,” making him a target for demons, and offers protection in exchange for housing. Despite her ninja duties, Shizuri is hilariously a shut-in slacker who loves playing video games and lounging in a tracksuit when off-duty, at least until her past starts to catch up with her…
Our Take
For this specific show, we get two episode format within a half-hour with each episode being 12 mins long with the first episode focusing on introducing the characters with Kunoichi Shizuri Ideura swooping in to the life of salary man Tsukasa Atsumi quite literally rescuing him from a demonic species that keeps pursuing the poor dude called the “Yoma” then promptly moves in as his self-proclaimed bodyguard. By day, she vanishes into ninja duties; by night, she’s a glasses-clad, tracksuit-wearing NEET (Basically the Japanese equivalent of a slacker) who would love nothing more than to leech off him financially and relax in his home. Yet beyond her lazy attitude when she’s off duty, Shizuri proves surprisingly earnest in both protecting him as he often unwittingly tugs at her heartstrings.
For the other half, the series plays with a series of comedy bits that blend absurdist humor with light action, punctuated by the arrival of Ayame, another Kunoichi whose fangirl obsession adds a delightfully off-kilter energy. While the jokes can feel broad with their random gaming showdowns, teleportation hand-waves, the chemistry between Tsukasa’s straight-man reliability and Shizuri’s wacky antics keeps things lively, even while introducing another character tied to Shizuri’s past…
Overall, the first two episodes deliver in spades with their breezy, self-aware blend of slice-of-life comedy and light fantasy, centered on the quirky dynamic between a straight-laced salaryman and his eccentric NEET ninja housemate. With short, punchy episodes that mix playful banter, offbeat romance, and the occasional demon-fighting twist, it leans fully into its ridiculous premise without aiming for emotional depth or complexity. And given its wacky nature so far, I can’t wait to see where it goes next!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
