English Dub Review: Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- “His Butler, Crossing Paths”

Overview:

The villagers madly pursue Sullivan, resulting in a fierce battle between them and the Phantomhive servants.

Our Take:

If every episode was like this one then Black Butler would be one of my favorite anime. As I’ve said before, the public school arc was the first time I’ve watched Black Butler. So, I had no idea that the Phantomhive servants were quite so badass. Finn I knew was a superhuman of sorts but Baldroy and Mey-Rin I wasn’t aware were quite so awesome. Baldroy was a former soldier which isn’t exactly surprising but Mey-Rin being an assassin was something that was fun to find out how I did. She was killing soldiers left and right like it was nothing. Tanaka, the old man, whom I didn’t even notice before this, grew out of his chibi form to show that he’s a katana wielding butler.

Not only were the characters awesome in this episode but the animation for this episode took a huge step up. I felt like I was watching an anime movie with how amazing some of these fight scenes. But I’m hoping it keeps up and since we’re nearing the end of the arc I have a feeling it will. The Phantomhives are not out of the woods yet, pun intended.
