English Dub Review: Aharen-san wa Hakarenai “A Class Trip, Huh?”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
It’s time for a class trip to Tokyo, with Raido and Aharen excited to visit a certain theme park.

Our Take:
From one trip to another, the students are once again embarking on another adventure outside the school grounds.  This time, the entire class is joining in on the action as they embark on a trip to the bustling city of Tokyo.  But, of course, knowing Raido and Aharen’s previous shenanigans, this ordinary class trip is bound to come across another series of troubling situations destined to turn the tide of this excursion.  This comes from Raido and Aharen’s desire to visit the city’s beloved theme park, DenisySea, while the rest of the students have their own fun exploring the city.  However, Raido’s missing ticket sends him on a wild goose chase that puts him at risk of missing out on the experience with Aharen.
Regarding its narrative structure, “A Class Trip, Huh?” functions in a similar manner to “Sea Bathing, Huh.”  The students go on a trip outside of school, and then a character’s mix-up causes a chain reaction that nearly becomes a disaster.  “Sea Bathing” involved Ishikawa screwing up the schedule, causing him and the other students to be stranded on a town-filled island for another day.  For this episode, it’s Raido’s clumsy mistake in leaving his DenisySea ticket back at the hotel that almost derailed his quality time with Aharen.  Thankfully, the teachers arrive to help a student in need.  Another element is Riku’s continued phobia of feeling left out when the students are put into groups, but thanks to Ishikawa, her worries about being around students she doesn’t know are dashed.  However, it does bring some concern about Ishikawa’s personality.
“A Class Trip, Huh?” follows a similar approach to the students’ beach trip narrative, but this time in the massive city of Tokyo.  Fortunately, it still delivered enough charming moments in its laidback presentation to make this trip another easygoing and amusing experience.  Regarding its humor, Riku’s joke about spanking Raido for losing his ticket has garnered the most amount of chuckles due to Riku’s guilt and Raido’s misunderstanding of the comment.  Thankfully, Raido seemed to have forgotten about it after the trip, easing Riku’s concerns.  There’s also a gag involving Tokyo’s number of trees in the city, which raises the question of how many more it will build until there’s no room left.  This episode further showcases that no matter where they go, whether at school or even in Tokyo, it’s always a fun time when Raido and Aharen are together.
