Review: Krapopolis “Love Week”

Overview

Love arrows are in the air! Ty gets a second chance at romance with Tina. Hippo and Stupe let love come between them; Shlub finds a new love: winning.

Our Take

This week’s episode of Krapopolis is unfortunately one of those side effects that happens when you have way too many characters to squeeze in for 23-minutes so if everyone isn’t accounted for in either the A or B plot then a tiny C plot shows up and it’s usually not very good. In this instance it’s Hippo and Stupe fighting over their love and affection over a god damned bowl. That’s right…a bowl. In fact, what ends up happening to the bowl is actually the funniest part of the whole bit because there was nothing great about anything else.

What we DID get is Alison Brie returning in her, possibly, busiest guest voice role yet since her Emmy-winning role on BoJack Horseman, that being her role as “Tina”. The noted love interest for Ty actually gets quite a few lines whence compared to even some of Ty’s other trysts which made for quite an enjoyable contribution. I actually loved the way the Erotes showed up to the episode, almost in a very Rick and Morty-way in that the fact that the arrow-shooting cupids aren’t the shocking part and in fact is almost like a fact of life for the denizens of Krapopolis, therefore there aren’t any actual surprises by who is getting hit by arrows and instead the characters are using the arrows to their advantage ala Ty. A rather ingenious take here.

Also, when in doubt, do a contest bit, the go-to trope for any showbiz animation writing team who have run out of ideas so they usually throw in a lame contest bit and let us have at it. This week it’s Shlub and I actually didn’t care either way.

What I DO care about is mentioning the fact Coldplay’s Chris Martin is in this week’s episode of Krapopolis and almost nobody knew about it. Like, there was a time when FOX couldn’t WAIT to whore out guest stars in their promo marketing and now, nothing. Such is the times I guess…
