English Dub Review: KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE Episode 3

Overview

Kudo looks for Gwen to no avail. Meanwhile, a masked man tells Reiko she and “Kujirai B” are different people.

Our Take

This time around, we get an episode that deepens the atmosphere of quiet unease. The characters navigate emotions as tangled as the city’s back alleys while focusing on shifting relationships and the weight of unspoken memories, capturing the melancholy pull between past and present. There’s a lingering sense that nothing is exactly as it seems, as gestures and glances hint at hidden truths beneath the surface.

The pacing picks up noticeably—perhaps a bit too much—causing some emotional beats to feel slightly compressed. Still, the visual storytelling remains sharp, using subtle details to express what words don’t. The Reiko/Kujirai B mystery inches forward with new interactions, suggesting there’s more beneath the surface without giving anything away outright.

Overall, this episode consistently maintains the show’s dreamlike tension while carefully setting up deeper narrative threads. Especially regarding the mystery around Reiko’s true nature and her bond with Kudō. Fleeting moments of warmth—the sunflower, the fish tank—sit uneasily beside sudden betrayals and secret histories, leaving both characters and, by extension, the audience to wonder who’s worthy of trusting at this point? Hopefully, more will be revealed as the plot continues to unravel…
