Blu-Ray Review: Rick and Morty: The Anime

“Rick and Morty: The Anime” offers fans a chance to own the full first season of this exciting anime adaptation in high definition which includes all ten episodes of the series.

For those unfamiliar with “Rick and Morty: The Anime,” it largely follows the familiar formula of the original series but reimagined through a distinct anime lens. Expect the same blend of sci-fi adventures, dark humor, and dysfunctional family dynamics as Rick Sanchez drags his grandson Morty across dimensions and through various bizarre scenarios. However, this time it’s all presented with the visual flair and storytelling conventions of Japanese animation.

While the core themes and character personalities remain intact, the anime adaptation brings a fresh perspective to the beloved characters and their misadventures. Fans of both “Rick and Morty” and anime will likely appreciate this unique take on the source material.

Typically, Blu-Ray releases of popular series include bonus content such as behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, commentary tracks, or deleted scenes but you’ll find none of those here as the days of the producers of Rick and Morty caring about their show is long gone.

If you enjoy seeing your favorite dimension-hopping duo in a brand new animated style, this Blu-Ray is likely worth adding to your collection and is a must-have for dedicated fans of the franchise who appreciate the anime style. However, the lack of  special features might be a turn off for buyers that are looking for that reason to fork over their hard-earned dough. The jacket notes that the series has amassed 10 million views across digital platforms, or, approximately 1/10th of a typical Mr. Beast upload which you can get for free.

Rick and Morty: The Anime is available on Blu-Ray and can be had here.
