Review: The Simpsons “P.S. I Hate You”

Overview

Marge’s “nice-lady” reputation is on the line when an unknown blackmailer threatens to expose the angry woman she is inside.

Our Take

Unlike the other Animation Domination shows on tonight, there WILL be a new episode of The Simpsons on the week of 4/20 in the form of a Disney+ special but until then you may want to make sure you watch this week’s FOX episode because it was a well-written whodunnit that continues the success this series has been having in delivering quality in the show’s 36th season.

The episode’s plot takes a bit to get off of the ground, but because the producers opted to not include a B-plot this week this allowed the show to truly flesh out the Cesar Mazariegos-written “P.S. I Hate You”. Those who stick with it will be rewarded because twists and turns are abond through the entirety of the 22-minutes that will leave you at the edge of your seat with compelling dramatic fare and even a bit more sassy crass language in our dialogue this week which I think we need to see more of moving forward.

A REAL shout out needs to go out to director Mike Frank Polcino, a guy so good he needs two first names for you to remember. Between the chase scene, the romantic sequence with Jimbo Jones and Shauna Chalmers, and Homer’s Taken-like phone call with Marge’s antagonists, there seemed to be a LOT of heavy lifting in the areas of shadowing, dream sequences and the never easy aforementioned chase sequences, all of which came out beautifully and worthy of your attention.

Now, to the new voice of Jimbo Jones. It was announced earlier this week that Pamela Hayden’s take on Jimbo would be replaced by MadTV’s Mo Collins who is no stranger to voice acting roles having taken on stops at series such as F is for Family, American Dad, and a bunch of others, typically getting the opportunity to perform her own original take on a character which I actually always prefer especially in a situation like this when you’re talking about taking over a character for a legendary voice actor like Pamela. Fortunately, Mo does a really great job mimicking the classic voice quite well, though again, maybe the producers of The Simpsons could’ve developed some NEW characters for Mo to voice and have some fun with them in the future because if anyone can bring that crazy sass it’s Lorraine from MadTV.

All in all, The Simpsons has given us another slam-dunk episode for the show’s 36th season. As mentioned “P.S. I Hate You” takes a bit to get going, but once it does it doesn’t let up. Oh, and if the end credits bit means anything at all, like a permanent stay for Tim fuckin’ Meadows, I am absolutely here for it.
