Review: Family Guy “A Real Who’s Hulu”
Overview
The Griffins spoof “Only Murders In The Building”, “The Dropout”, and “The Bear”.
Our Take
Whenever I get an anthology episode I famously roll the fuck out of my eyes. Especially when it’s something like this where it’s three Hulu series that I’ve never watched so I know I’ve got more than a few gags going over my head about each of the shows that I’ll never understand. Furthermore, the series opts to also focus on a few other series and properties (one of which gets a fantastic cameo) that for the most part I’ve never seen and then think I’m still gonna emit a laugh.
Fortunately, I actually did have a few giggles in this Matt Pabian-written episode. For starters it’s one of the goriest episodes of Family Guy we’ve gotten in quite some time and the whole thing ends with a couple of roasts that were pretty entertaining. We also get one of the more substantial Sanaa Lathan episodes in years, possibly even since The Cleveland Show and what we got was a stark reminder of how funny she is when she gets some screen time in the show which is something I think the producers really need to hone in on to get us a bit more variety in some of the episodes in the future.
The whole premise of the episode is stated at the beginning of the series, passing through a number of Hulu originals to get to the Family Guy hub. That said, if the producers were REALLY wanting to go in that direction, why not have some fun with some of the other animated series that are sharing a lot of the same real estate? Like, wouldn’t it have been more fun to do a Solar Opposites or Futurama crossover? In any event, I think this week’s episode wasn’t as bad as prior anthology episodes, but unless if you’re a big fan of the shows that these guys are lampooning, you might be just as non-caring about the subject matter as I am.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
