English Dub Review: The Apothecary Diaries “The Baths”

Overview:

Xiaolan’s term of service is almost up, so she must find a new job. Maomao and Shisui decide to help.

Our Take:

Well… I suppose being a masseuse to concubines would be a better job than nothing. Shisui had the hookup when it comes to that job, so she decided to help Xiaolan. Maomao helped in her way by showing a way to remove body hair without having to use a razor. She used this to help out others as well. It’s interesting to me how we see things like this in historical shows, and we still use some of these methods today.

What I’m about to say probably isn’t fair to this show, but to me, it was a boring episode coming off the excitement of the past couple of episodes. I understand we needed a bit of a palate cleanser after that, but it feels like a lot is going on that should be focused on. Someone tried to kill Jinshi, and it seems like that should be addressed. We now know that his lineage is important, and I’m not sure who all is privy to the truth, but someone trying to kill an heir to the throne seems like it should be a bigger deal than it is right now.
