English Dub Review: From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated! ” Dad Makes a Pun!”

Overview:

Grace, aka Kenzaburo, integrates himself into the student council. He may be an effective bureaucrat, but his resourcefulness and modesty are raising unnecessary love flags.

Our Take:

I did not expect this anime to spend as much time on math and abacuses as it has. That is to say, I didn’t expect any time to be spent on abacuses if I’m being honest. But since Kenzaburo was a bureaucrat in his past life, it makes sense that math would be a specialty of his. I wasn’t aware that Grace and Virgile (the prince) were engaged, but it was cute to see that he was proud to be engaged to her after she displayed math prowess.

One thing that makes this isekai hard to discuss in particular is the way the main character is handled. Usually in an isekai, we know the character’s name that was reincarnated, but they fully accept that they are this new person. Rudeus is Rudeus, for example, I can’t even tell you what his name was in his past life. But the main character for this is both Kenzaburo AND Grace, they are so intertwined it almost feels like I’m talking about two different characters. It makes for an interesting show, but hard to discuss.
