English Dub Review: Anne Shirley “It’s Such an Interesting World”

Overview

Based on the classic 19th century novel “Anne of Green Gables” by L.M. Montgomery, The Story follows the titular Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan with a vast imagination and a short temper. In a twist of fate, she gets taken into the Cuthbert house in Avonlea. The elderly occupants Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert were looking for a young boy to help in the fields, but they’re in for quite a shock when they realize Anne is a girl…

Our Take

Truthfully, I never experienced the original 1979 anime or was even aware of the novel’s existence that this Adaptation is based on, but this immediately caught my attention as it delivers in spades with it’s distinct visual charm and beautiful background art, expressive animation. There’s something timeless about the setting and tone that makes it stand out despite this taking place in another time period.

At the heart of the episode is Anne herself, is a spirited young girl whose unbridled imagination and curiosity breathe fresh air into her new home at Green Gables. Her interactions with the kindly Cuthberts—and the way their lives intertwine—set up a deeply felt story about found family and the power of kindness. Everyone’s chemistry feels genuine, and Anne’s infectious wonder reminds us how small moments of joy and acceptance can transform ordinary days.

Overall, this premiere sets up a charming, emotional coming-of-age tale centered on found family and second chances. Anne’s curiosity and imagination breathe life into the quiet world of Avonlea, and I’m excited to see how her presence changes the people around her and whether or not this leads to something much bigger. But either way, it wasn’t dull and left me hooked to see where it goes next!
