Season Review: YOLO: Rainbow Trinity (First Four Episodes)

Australian adult animation is no longer having a moment and could arguably be ranked third behind China and the United States in terms of pure quality output. With Adam Elliott bagging an Academy Award nomination for Memoir of a Snail, studios like Glitch Productions are tearing a hole on YouTube, and Michael Cusack has solidified himself as a bona fide elite producer graduating from Newgrounds to now having multiple TV series on both streaming and television.

YOLO: Rainbow Trinity continues to follow the adventures of Sarah (Sarah Bishop) and Rachel(Todor Manojlovic ) with the first four episodes showcasing all sorts of hilarious events, parties, and festivals to kick off the show’s third season. Fans of Cusack that adore the producer’s tradition of not being satisfied with just a single animation styling will be psyched to see a number of different art-styles utilized within the first half of the season, up to and including 2D, CG, rotoscope, and I think even what appeared to be a 16-bit animated villain of some sort.

The laughs are all over the place as is usual with your Cusack productions. Talking ants, emo lead singers, and more are just a tip of the iceberg of what you can expect this eight-episode season produced by Princess Bento Pictures and the second-half of the season can’t get here fast enough. Cusack is hysterical as all of the ancillary voices and Luke who is back to his ol’ self. Our titular voices are fantastic too and I’ve successfully already been grossed out by Rachel thus far and we’re only halfway through.
