Review: Snooze Quest

The one-and-only Victoria Vincent returns to Adult Swim Smalls with a new animated short called Snooze Quest. In what seems to be a quarter-hour pilot episode of a potential new series for Adult Swim, Snooze Quest follows our lead character PJ who has trouble sleeping and as such gets involved in some sort of sniper revenge plot. Not one to just settle for warm milk in a bowl of Frosted Shredded Wheat, it doesn’t take long before PJ attempts to self-medicate herself into getting her recommended eight hours of sleep which may or may not have something to do with her having a complete psychotic breakdown,

Everything about the 10-minute animated short film is very punk rock. From the aesthetic to the excellent music soundtrack (from Sean Harper and Flagman), Snooze Quest is not unlike most of what you see from Victoria on her own YouTube channel which already does well with over a million subscribers so clearly this is Adult Swim’s way of pulling an Amazon/Vivienne Madrano in trying to lure a younger-skewing audience which should work well on the channel’s YouTube page but how that would translate to television is anyone’s guess.

In any event, Snooze Quest may or may not be the thing that ultimately gets her a TV series but she definitely has the chops to hang with the big boys as evidenced by her sold out film festivals and growing online fan base. FOX was sniffing around with her last year for an animated series that hasn’t come to pass just yet, but as we saw with Joe Bennett just a couple of years ago on FX’s Cake series, as long as you keep building it, they(the people with the money) will be on their way. In the meantime, definitely check out Snooze Quest so you can tell your friends you knew Victoria Vincent before she was famous.
