Review: RICK AND MORTY: SPRING BREAK OUT #1

Overview

It’s Spring Break!!! Well, at least for everyone else BUT Morty Smith. After an outburst in Mr. Goldenfold’s class, Morty and a handful of other students are stuck in all-day detention under the watchful eye of—oh no: Rick Sanchez! In a Breakfast Club meets Magic School Bus–style adventure, Rick takes Morty and the kids around the universe for a lesson on Spring Break they’ll never forget.

Our Take

From writers James Asmus and Jim Festante (Survival Street, Rick and Morty: Super Spring Break Special #1) and illustrator Dean Rankine (Rick and Morty: Super Special Holiday Extravaganza #1) comes a super-sized, super Spring Break adventure.

And by adventure, I mean an overall arc that has a number of continuations that checks in on most of everyone whilst Rick and Morty are causing trouble with all of Morty’s friends. Admittedly at first I was a bit concerned about a storyline about Rick heading up a class trip but my worries soon turned aside and classic Rick shined through like a nighthawk. Afterwards, we learn about what Principal Vagina and Summer get into both of which are just as funny if not more so than the original story.

Another fun thing added to this one-off is that of a bunch of movie posters but parodied by Rick and Morty that could make for fun pin-ups at home. Doing little things like this make for a special release that every Rick and Morty fan should take advantage of.
