Review: Krapopolis “Number Twos”
Overview
Ty and Stupe are both looking to hire assistants, and Ty is trying to not judge a book by its cover – its slimy, eerie, evil looking cover. Hippo tries to have a romantic getaway with Daphne… and his parents.
Our Take
Oh man, Zac Oyama better thank his karate-kicking parents that they had the presence of mind to produce a talented writer for a kid because if they hadn’t I was going to use the “Number Twos” episode title in EVERY savage way I could think of for a negative review. I had a lot, too, like “this episode is a big number two”, and “this show is a number two”, and “Dan Harmon is a big piece of number two” the whole bit. Fortunately for Zac, none of that has to happen now because “Number Twos” was actually a pretty entertaining episode.
“Number Twos” actually refers to the fact that Ty and Stupe get new assistants voiced by superhuman actors, for Ty his assistant is voiced by Academy Award winning actor Kieran Culkin who voices an assistant that slowly takes over Ty’s kingdom whilst Nathan Fillion voices Stupe’s new assistant who maybe is a bit too obsessive. While we’ve seen a number of disagreements between Stupe and Ty over the course of the show’s couple of seasons, this week’s episode was one of the funnier examples of the trope and I’m glad I was here for it.
Somehow wedged into the two-sided A-plot with Ty and Stupe, Hippo, Daphne, Shlub, and Deliria give us almost a C-plot and although that may sound like we got into a very busy busy show that could’ve turned into a clusterfuck because we somehow would’ve had to account for everybody all over the place, the show actually flows nice and smoothly and the result is a more than a solid episode that is one of the funnier efforts of the season. Yes, maybe the plots are a bit cliched and not exactly groundbreaking, but to somehow pull off three stories in 22-minutes is quite a task and show runner Alex Rubens is showing us why he has the big boy job.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
