Our Take

This week’ s episode of Family Guy is largely a paint-by-numbers effort that sees Lois attempting to venture onto a new path to make herself happy but to the chagrin of Peter. Like most of the episodes of this variety, the two end up back on the same team, and yes you’ve largely seen this one before.

That said, there were a number of laughs to be had throughout the episode entitled “Lois C.K.” and if you thought they were most likely to avoid any jokes towards Louie’s sexual misconduct allegations then you are 100% right. MAYBE there’s a slight comment by Brian, but it’s so small, it’s not even worth writing home about and certainly not indicative of the old days when Family Guy used to burn barns down with topics such as this. In any event, that’s not to say this week’s new episode from Evan Waite didn’t have it’s moments.

For starters, fans of old-school Family Guy are going to love the quick run-through of some of Peter’s classic gags as he attempts to straighten up his act which is a somewhat brief adventure regardless and almost not even worth mentioning. Also, classic anthropomorphism is ALL over the place tonight in the form of blood cells and Cheerios and OH MY GOD IS THAT A SIR-MIX-A-LOT MUSIC VIDEO! Yes it is, and it’s fantastic!

The dialogue this week was definitely on the funnier side, probably to be expected if you’re going to do an episode about stand-up comedy featuring Lois Griffin of whose voice actor is a two-time Emmy winner for portraying that of a comedy talent manager. But, really, there were laughs all over the place and that’s what Family Guy makes the big bucks for though if you’re looking for a truly original and fresh premise there have been better examples so far this season.
