Our Take
Forget about the fact that this is an animated series, Common Side Effects has some of the most compelling television that I’ve ever seen anywhere since Breaking Bad. Every scene is as gripping as the last and just when you thought you couldn’t take this series any more seriously than you have then they throw in some giggles to kind of back you up long enough to hit you with another wallop. Everything from drama to comedy to twists and turns to backstabbing and more, Common Side Effects has everything you need for your next obsession.
Dave King is killing it as Marshall who is slowly turning into my favorite TV character ever. But, then the show gives you more heavy characters like Frances (Emily Pendergast) that have internal conflicts that they seem to be working through and then even Agents Copano and Harrington, once deemed as antagonists, now I can’t help but root for them as well in their new journeys. And how about Mike Judge, like ADDITIONAL VOICES Mike Judge? Mike needs to win all of the TV awards next year because he’s just putting in the best vocal performance of his life even whence compared to his already stellar resume.
Joe and Steve’s Common Side Effects is an absolute heart-wrenching and hilarious endeavor that will be remembered for years to come. Just when I think “there’s no way they can keep this up” the show starts to reinvent itself and the characters also go through their own metamorphosis the likes I’ve never seen on Adult Swim. Now if you’ll excuse me, I got to go lie down and stay awake for the next four hours thinking about this show.
