English Dub Review: Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister “Shirahi’s Mirage ~Feelings~”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Uryu gets his barings in this alternate timeline, but finds himself still drawn to the Amagami Sisters, but Shirahi still pursues him.

OUR TAKE

Second part of this four part story to finish out the season, and the first of these episodes that fully takes place in this new changed world. Uryu understands the situation now, that the him in this world is dating Shirahi and has never met the Amagamis, but he doesn’t know that Shirahi herself is the reason this world exists and why he’s here. With that in mind, he obviously doesn’t want to be so mean as to break up with what he thinks is an alternate universe version of her, but he also can’t lie and pretend to be her boyfriend when this him doesn’t remember ever doing that. On top of that, he once again runs into Asahi, and despite some understandable awkwardness, he reunites with Yae and Yuna as well. He tries pleading his case based on what he remembers, but unexpectedly rekindles Yae’s memories of meeting him as a child, which gives him an in with the other two and cementing it by helping them clean and cook like he does in the regular timeline. This at least shows them he means well and genuinely cares about them, but also makes clear he doesn’t belong in this world. Though that doesn’t stop Shirahi from tracking him to the shrine and trying to mark her territory by claiming him as her boyfriend.

We’ll get into the impact of that in the next episode, but for now, let’s talk about what’s made clear here. Simply put, you can take the boy out of the shrine, but you can’t take the shrine out of the boy, as Uryu has all of his memories of the old life and is naturally going to try recreating the life he knows. Luckily he’s not a weirdo about it and manages to reconnect with the sisters all over again through his strong character. This of course is irksome to Shirahi, who wished for this whole dang world so they could be together…but then why did she let him keep his memories? And as a result, she ends up being a minor part in her own damn arc, though at least we get some backstory about why she began to like Uryu in the first place. And we have more on her to come in the remaining two episodes, as she and Uryu realize what their ultimate test in this fake world will be.
