English Dub Review: Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun “Make Sense”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Nene and Kou meet Shijima, the Fourth Wonder of the school, and learn that they are stuck in one of her paintings, and in order to leave, they’ll have to kill the copies of their friends.
OUR TAKE
I think I mentioned last time that this deal with the fake school would probably be wrapped up by this episode, but it turns out this is going to drag out into the next two AFTER this, making it at least four episodes total. They are really making sure to roll out the red carpet for Wonder Number Four, huh. But we do have the nature of this illusion figured out. It’s a painted world, made by Shijima, and once the painting is finished, Nene and Kou will begin to lose memories of their real lives and be trapped forever within it! However, there is a solution and a way out, but it’s a bit of a dark one. Seems that Nene and Kou will have to kill their best friends in order to show they fully reject this false world, in this case being Amane and Mitsuba, respectively. And while Amane is just a copy, Mitsuba is the real one, or at least the one that was left and became the Third Wonder. Meanwhile Nene can’t even bring herself to kill a FAKE Amane, meaning that method of escape is just plain off the table, so what the hell do they do now?!
Well, we won’t really know until next time or even the time after that, but while we’re here, let’s compare this use of a Wonder’s power to the one’s we’ve seen in the show so far. The first one we saw after Hanako was the Second Wonder Yako and the Misaki Stairs, whose power was basically about enchanting stairs so that if you hit the wrong one, you’d die. After that was Fifth Wonder Ryuujirou and the 4 o Clock library, which could trap you if you dared to read the book that held your future (and kind of foreshadowed Nene’s fate now that I think about it). Then was the previous Third Wonder who didn’t even get a name and had a Hell of Mirrors that reflected your worst fears back at you. And most recently, we met the First Wonders, who were three entities, one of whom was Akane, who can control certain aspects of the flow of time. And now we have the Fourth Wonder, which is one that is probably the most threatening one yet and it gets four whole episodes to breathe! Good lord, what is the Sixth Wonder’s arc gonna be like at this rate?!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
