English Dub Review: How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer “That Time I Went to an Izakaya and…”

Overview:

Kohaku invites Hagi to hang out. Fuji asks Asagi to come over to her place so he can do her a favor.

Our Take:

I like that this show deals with adults dating as opposed to the usual high-schoolers we interact with in anime. My problem is that it doesn’t feel all that different because the characters still freak out over the littlest things. Well… not all of them, most of the girls don’t let things bother them as much as the guys do with two exceptions. For the girls, I would say that Kohaku gets freaked out over dumb things, and on the flip side, I would say that Asagi is the only guy to not go nuts over things.

My other issue is how often the girls are in their cross-dressing clothes and makeup. I understand that is the thing that sets this rom-com apart from others. But there are times when it doesn’t make sense, like Fuji being dressed that way at home or Kohaku thinking it will make things easier since they’re going to a coffee shop. The only one that made sense was Suo insisting that it was to make Tokiwa more comfortable. But even that is annoying because I want to see them go on a normal date. I’m still excited for this show and I look forward to it, but I’d like to see some things change as they get more comfortable.
