OUR TAKE

It feels like it’s been a long time since this arc started, and it kind of has since it’s been about a month and a half, but it’s also only been six episodes. We met Yuri and Shiro at the start of this arc and saw the basic points of how their relationship developed, but Satan only showed up like two episodes ago and basically changed his entire character a couple times in that time span. Basically what I’m saying is that I buy what was happening between Yuri and Shiro, but not so much how Yuri ended up liking Satan so much that she was willing to have his kids. I understand that this whole arc is about explaining stuff like how Rin and Yukio were born, Satan being their father and Shiro not being their biological father, but they really do not fill in the points that actually matter. This dude started life as…well, he first started a bunch of sentient fire, but when he gained a body, he was basically a child in a man’s body, and then the moment he gained a bit of knowledge he turned into an overly controlling jackass. I guess what I’m saying is that I just don’t see the appeal here, Yuri, but hey it’s your flashback.

So yeah, she gets pregnant, the two try to leave the place they holed up in, the Demon Kings and Order members that attempted to join him are all pretty disappointed by him turning out to be a flake and turn on him, and Shiro learns of the pregnancy from Mephisto and goes to kill the kids with the sword that will eventually seal Rin’s powers until the beginning of the series. However, much to Rin’s (and also my) shock, Rin is born with immense power and starts killing a whole bunch of people who were observing the birth. But also, it turns out that the reason that Rin didn’t want to know more about his mom like Yukio did is because he actually remembered and repressed the memory of this…yeah, okay, whatever. He then goes on an existential crisis, which is the most involvement he’s had this whole season so fine, I’ll take it. We don’t have much longer in this flashback anyway, as all that’s left is to actually show us what happened on The Blue Night…and going by next episode’s title, we’re still a couple weeks away from that. Dammit!
