Review: Krapopolis “Stavros Live and in Concert”

Overview

Tyrannis’ favorite singer Stavros is in town, but he also happens to be the favorite singer of Athena and her radical followers; Deliria goes on a little getaway.

Our Take

I think the biggest difference between seasons one and two of Krapopolis has been the addition of Alex Rubens as the new showrunner in place of Jordan Young. More and more the show is getting some of the DNA injection of old-school Rick and Morty and you can even tell a lot of the voice talent that frequents the aforementioned Adult Swim show is waking it’s way over here and the series has been slightly improved as a result. The show has a long way to go in terms of maybe not always needing to focus on every principle character in the very busy cast but overall there are some signs of life here.

This week’s episode of Krapopolis features two fun romps for different reasons. For the A-plot featuring Tyrannis and his possible ongoing affair with Athena, the story featured a very contemporary resonance with today’s pop culture. Anyone who has been a part of the wars on X.com where the discourse around Rage Against The Machine and whether or not that band belongs to conservatives or liberals will really enjoy the similar debates that comes to a head during the climax.

Then we get into the ant hole, literally, in an almost Krapopolis meets Antz plot that is hysterical. Anybody who enjoys the extended adventures of Rick and Morty’s Gromflomite or other aliens species will feel right at home as various members of the ant colony levy snide remarks at management while Shlub is running around in a disheveled ant suit.

Unfortunately for the show, the ratings for Krapopolis aren’t quite there right now. This has me thinking that perhaps all of the changes that have happened with the still young franchise, dropping the NFT integrations being chief among them alongside the constant schedule changes and the aforementioned producer changes, could be causing confusion to the various demos that were tuning into the show at the start.
